A few more things to check on a regular basis...
If yours is a collapsible tow bar, check the legs and make sure they latch correctly. If they are mis-adjusted, this could contribute to too much for/aft movement while towing.
Some tow bars are equipped with a rubber boot which protects the inside legs from dirt and water. Check to see if your tow bar is “sticky” or if the legs don't slide in or out easily. If this happens you can do this...
Remove the small cable ties holding the rubber boots on the legs and slide the boots back. Wipe clean each inside leg and apply a light coat of multipurpose grease to insure smooth operation. Secure each boot back in place with an 8-inch nylon cable tie.
If your is a tow bar with exposed legs, visually inspect them often. Since they are not protected, dirt and road grime can get into the latches and actually cause them not to latch properly.
Doing all these things will help ensure your tow bar lasts longer and that you will not have any potential problems while on the road.
